Meh I suppose it's a little nicer than a Camry. But I bet he can't get 30mpg or move a wardrobe with it.

The 458 justdoesn't depreciate

I've never seen a car that was produced in such high numbers hold its value so well.

Odd number of tail pipes, lights too far apart, cheap looking license plate surround, red color way too common. 3/10 would not want.

It'll probably go the way of the 993 and just stay the same forever.

It is because of the 2 year waiting list I am sure. Wait until the next one comes out! Many Ferrari owners just want the newest thing.

at least the 993 did depreciate before it started going up.

The 458 is acting like it's special. Silly mass-produced Ferrari thinks that it's a Ford GT or 997.2 GT3.

that's what I thought too but I went and talked to the dealer. There hasn't been a waiting list on it for a while. The only one that they don't have any alterations for is the Speciale. You can order the regular car now and get it in less than a year.

The problem is that the options are expensive. And nobody orders cars with zero option. And the used cars just don't lose that much value. A used car has to have a ton of miles on it or be an ugly color to be under 200,000.

When the new one comes out, it'll drop for a short time then come back up. You must buy one when it drops.

Kinja'd!!!0

I sure hope so

It all depends on how much people like the new car

If most people like the turbocharged car then your prediction will be correct. But if the F chat poll means anything then buyers are going to be pissed. 75% of people polled preferred naturally aspirated.

It will be interesting to see if the majority of buyers automatically like the new car because it's the new toy. Or if they stay away.

I want to know if the f chat poll is an accurate representation of the entire Ferrari population.

If you want an exact car, and not one already on order or with options you do not want, you are waiting a good bit. A friend's dad JUST got his 458 a few months ago that he put on order when it first came out. He refused to accept anything other than what he wanted or pay more than MSRP. Took him years!

the Ford GT was made in much smaller numbers

The 458 is a Camry compared to the GT. Ferrari makes and sells more of them than they will admit. I read somewhere that it's their highest selling model of all time.

The F40 used turbos strictly for performance. The new car will also be about efficiency.

Hopefully it sounds good

Whoa that's crazy!!!

Bummer it took so long but he's also kind of lucky.

Not only did he avoid over paying, but he will get a super reliable car. The last couple years of production are always the best. Ferrari figures out the kinks and fixes them.

I wouldn't buy a high mileage 2010 car no matter how good the deal looked. Just too risky.

They depreciate... if you look at prices and assume that each car sold new for base MSRP, you're mistaken. Most cars easily have $40k-$60k of options, and many buyers paid a premium above full retail.

At one point a year or two ago, his dealer called him and told him if he bought an additional California, they would get his 458 to him quickly after. Insane.

And he is no Ferrari slouch. He has bought many Ferraris from this dealer over the years, including one of the first F40s sold in the US.

Kinja'd!!!0

What's your opinion on the F430? Do you think it's near the bottom of its age-based deprecation curve?

I'm hoping so. I'm hoping that if I buy a nice one with a desirable color combo and option set that it won't depreciate much due to age but mostly because of the miles I put on it.

Kinja'd!!! TheCraigy > Manuél Ferrari
08/07/2014 at 15:03

Kinja'd!!!1

Oooooo. My relatively tight-fisted, over-analytical economics professor friend recently purchased one, if that lends any insight.

I think there's certainly potential for them to continue to depreciate, but not that much. The post ~98 cars are significantly better on maintenance, etc. and will not suffer like the 348, 355. 430s will always be more expensive than 360s, which should carry a big premium to the 355.

If you get one in resale red/tan I think you'd do fine. Theoretically you could underpay for another color and get underpaid when you sell, resulting in a wash, but it'll still be harder to sell. Mileage is going to be your enemy though. If you want to put a lot of miles on it, it might be better to take a 25k car to 45k, instead of taking a 10k car to 30k

Kinja'd!!! TheCraigy > Manuél Ferrari
08/07/2014 at 15:04

Kinja'd!!!1

But as far as the car itself, I think they're fantastic.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > TheCraigy
08/07/2014 at 15:11

Kinja'd!!!0

I agree with everything you said! I've been having the same thoughts.

After seeing a lot of cars in person I actually like resale red over tan. So I wouldn't feel like I'm sacrificing anything by paying a bit more now for a car that would be easier to sell in the future.

Thank God! So many people hate the F430 and think it's a POS compared to the 458.

Good that at least a few Opponauts like it as much as I do

Also no shame in resale red. People want it because it's gorgeous.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > TheCraigy
08/07/2014 at 15:34

Kinja'd!!!1

Haha yeah some people are funny. They've never driven one so they blast it due to specs. "That car is dumb, the 458 is faster. Why get a Ferrari that's slower than a Z06? You're stupid. And the 458 is better looking, the F430 is ugly. etc. etc.". But it's only FP people that talk like that. Opponauts will just say what they like or don't like without making fun of you. They might make fun of the car but not the person.

Resale red does look great in person. In a perfect world I would have one red Ferrari and one blue. Then I think my life would be complete. Marriage and children are not as important as having one red Super Dino and one blue Super Duper Dino (like the 458S)
